Exploring a new world challenge

I got my first Oculus Quest 2 delivered literally a day after the government lifted the lockdown restrictions. lol Well, I decided to get this headset to practice building my own place in virtual reality because it seems a lot easier and more fun than doing that in real life.

During the pandemic, “Zillow” -ing became a thing. 3D map technology that scanned the entire place makes things so much easier to snoop other people’s home without physically being there — what a time-saving! (is it really?) I love interior design, not just looking at beautiful houses but also renovating an old place and make it new. Back in 2013 when things were cheaper than what it is now, I bought a tiny run-down studio for cheap (USD $55K for 400sqft in Seattle) and did a renovation to make it my own.

My dream was to build my own house. However, is that realistic at the moment? I need a full-time job to get a mortgage, otherwise two years of work record if you’re a freelancer. Duh- I left my job in London and do what I love last November in 2020. Here I am in Vancouver, I found myself trying to look for the same sort of job again just to follow the traditional path of “being able to afford a home”! While talking to friends, there was a wake-up call.

“Listen, don’t try to fit yourself into the job description. Life is too short. Do what you love to do. ”

True that. I’m starting a new journey and I will record because I keep forgetting why I started all this.

Exploring in a new world, building my own house in VR — it makes me smile when I wake up in the morning just to open my laptop and explore and learn new things.

A new project challenge for myself to write my journey of learning VR and building a new world, sharing resources and outcome can inspire other people and guide them to their beginning of something cool.
