Catching up with friends in VR gallery they built

After having a family dinner, I received a message from a friend who insisted me to buy the Oculus headset. He lives on the east coast and I live on the west coast. The last time I met him in person was in NYC and 2017 at a Voice conference hosted by Amazon Alexa. Things have changed a lot in life and careers. We were meant to see at his wedding last year in Toronto, unfortunately, due to the travel ban during the pandemic, I’ve only got to see it over YouTube Live. We arranged a quick meet up in VR space for the first time in 3 years. He wanted to show me the VR gallery he built.

I opened the browser while wearing Oculus, using a controller to type the address and had to take off and on the headset to see the passcode sent to my phone. Finally, I accessed the link. And here I am in the VR gallery space.

‘WOW’

I see him walking over me and hear his voice coming closer. The combination of his voice moving as his avatar presence. I felt like we are in the same space.

‘This is crazy, I just use URL address to come into a virtual space?!’

Piano placed “outdoor”, experience how spatial design works better with sound

Following his guide, looking around and listening to his stories of building VR space, transporting between other VR spaces. It was so much better than I thought. I’m excited to start building my own VR space.
